sustainable living
One of our first projects will be to look into the viability and feasibility of solar panels to generate energy for hot water and possibly for all our needs. In the Provence the sun shines around 300 days of the year so solar panels are definitely viable. Having said that, we are not so certain about the proper and correct disposal of these panels at the end of their life cycle after about 20 years. An alternative is wind energy which, aided by the Mistral, is a viable option but we still have to look into the different aspects of installing a wind mill (noise pollution, reliability of wind).
water
As water is scarce in the Provence we are looking to catch rain water in a cistern which we can then use to water our vegetable garden.
natural pool
Another project in the more distant future is to create natural pool on our property! A natural pool consists of three parts which allow for the water to be filtered by plants and rocks and continuously provide fantastic water without the use of chemicals and public water.
sanitation
We are looking into the possibility of adding dry toilets to the house. This requires a bit of outside space which may or ma not be available on our property.
